WHAT'S YOUR GOAL?
Private practice, establishing a nonprofit agency, social work, school counseling, teaching, organizational development – all of the above? This is certainly an exciting
time to be part of the human service field and there are great opportunities that present themselves to individuals looking into these careers.
By the way, what do they all have in common? They certainly all begin with
education, but what really makes them achievable and leads to a successful career opportunity, is experience. So where do you get that experience? The best way is through an internship. A strong internship
experience helps connect your school experience to a real world experience that makes you marketable. So where do you look? Which is the best internship, the one that can provide the most opportunity? And what are
you looking for? Which one provides the most diverse experience? How do you know you're getting the best possible experience? And which one makes you the most marketable.
First, look at what an internship
can do for you, one that can open the most doors and can get you closest to your career goal. The one that provides you the most experience and the most opportunity to showcase your talents. Also, have some
expectations, such as training, supervision, the greatest opportunity to work directly with clients. The ability to interface with other professionals. Overall, you should feel that you can walk away from an internship
and have something valuable to sell a potential employer. How do you know these things are important? Well, I've been in private practice for 33 years and besides being the founder and President of Outreach Concern, I'm also the
Director of the Orange County Catholic Charities Counseling Program and the President of Capaldi and Associates, a nationally known organizational development firm. So I know what employers want because I'm an employer.
As an employer, I have interns and graduates approach me every month looking for paid positions. And although their education is oftentimes impressive, it's only the first step. Employers like myself, hire individuals
who have the greatest and most diverse experience and can bring something of value to their organizations.
So once again, where do you get that experience? Just like looking for anything else in life, go to the
best, most experienced, the one that provides you the greatest opportunity to give you the most for your investment. That's right, I said investment. Most organizations don't address the investment interns make, but
let's face it, whether your internship is part of an educational program that necessitates a practicum experience or you're collecting hours for licensing, you're making an investment. You're investing your time and energy,
so you do make an investment, and it's important that the organization you choose to intern with recognizes that investment and provides you the most value for what you invest.
Back to who is the best and offers you
the best opportunity and experience? I founded Outreach Concern in 1993 and for the last 15 years we've provided internships to over 4,000 human service specialists throughout Southern California. As a result, we are
one of the largest, nonprofit, school based counseling program in the country and frankly I believe we're the best. I believe we offer the most to interns and I know that people who complete internships with Outreach Concern
get jobs. Those opportunities present themselves because of the wide array of experience we provide individuals who commit to an internship with Outreach Concern. Look at what we offer:
- OVER 200 INTERNSHIP SITES THROUGHOUT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.
- ONGOING TRAINING AND SUPERVISION THROUGHOUT YOUR INTERSHIP.
- INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP SUPERVISION.
- ON-SITE ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT FROM OUR REGIONAL FIELD SUPERVISOR STAFF.
- CONSISTENT CLIENT CONTACT.
- PAID MALPRACTICE INSURANCE.
- AVAILABLE PLACEMENTS, USUALLY NO MORE THAN 20 MINUTES FROM YOUR HOME.

And now, with a new partnership that Outreach Concern has developed with a local Southern California community clinic, we are able to offer interns who work with us in one of our school-based placements, paid internships at the
conclusion of their internship with our organization.
Obviously, everyone wants to be paid and now this new association will provide many of our interns an opportunity to work in a professional clinical setting, working with
children, adolescents, couples and families, gain additional training, supervision and get compensated for their time and commitment. Opportunities are provided on both a part or full time basis and will be offered to those
interns who have completed an internship in one of our school-based settings. This is a great opportunity for individuals who are working on MFT, LCSW and Psychologists licensing and we at Outreach Concern are excited about
providing this opportunity to individuals who've worked with us and decided to commit themselves to human service careers.
